So I today when I tried to open my sunroof it wouldn't open!! its like I'm not even pushing the button. So after work I went out and tried it again and it worked all the way home. open, close, all that great stuff. But it only works sometimes. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Or have had a similar problem.

First, let's get the basics out of the way (not trying to be a dick):
1) Was the key in the "ON" position at least? 2) Are you sure you were pressing the "OPEN" button on the roof? (I've mistakenly hit the close button thinking I was doing the right thing) 3) Is there a blown fuse? (Granted, if it's working occassionaly, then the fuse must be in tact, but it could be on it's way out)
If all these are in the positive, then you probably have a short. From there, I don't know how to help you other than to send you to someone who knows automotive electronics. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!!

Alright thanks for the tips. I'll try cleaning it and if it still doesn't work, I'll figure out who to take it to

sunroofs are awesome, but rather expensive to get a piece cut out of your car.

It could be a relay is failing. I had this problem on the Saturn I owned. It turned out it was a relay. Find out if there is a relay used in the circuit to power the sunroof, and see if you can replace it, or if a shop is needed.

Mine will open about 2-3 inches and then comes to a stop. Tried holding the button down for over 2 seconds, but it did nothing. Any tips for getting the glass off to expose the rails? I feel like maybe some sap dripped in there at some point...it still tilts open too so i don't think its a relay sitch or it wouldn't work at all, right?
Any input is helpful.....I miss my cool-ass sliding moonroof, it was one of the main exterior features that drew me to the Celicas, and the dealer wants almost $150 just to look at it.
Thoughts? Tips/Tricks?

Probably the controller circuit board is going bad where the rocker switch is. I had issues with mine where sometimes the sunroof would open just a little or not open at all. And hard to close at times. It ended being a bad contact on the circuit board. I removed the board completely and and just soldered a 3way toggle switch to the wires I cut from the board. The toggle switch just hangs from where the rocker switch used to be. Works fine now. Don't care if the toggle switch just dangles down a bit as long as I can open and close my sunroof. Havent had any issues. Oh btw, before I installed a toggle switch, I was just inserting a small jumper wire to make close and open contact to open the sunroof. I was tired of inserting the jumper in and out every time so a 3way toggle switch is better.
