Crossing a river bridge at 120 and the trailing edge of the hood begin to flutter so bad I thought it was going to come off! Is this what the hood spoiler is to prevent? I don't have one. Anyone with one equipped see it happen to their hood?

I forgot to remove it...a pic of a opossum I hit last week .. a running joke. Thanks for reminding me, I forgot to change it!

Seriously, anyone had their hood do that? It freaked me out and distracted me enough to pull over! Is this the reason for the hood spoiler?

I'm pretty sure that the problem that you're having with the factory hood comming up is due to the lach not being securely being tightend or shut. If thats not it you should check the nuts and bolts that hold the hood down. All else fails try investing in a Carbon Fiber hood and Pins.

My hood latch is fine, there has been no maintenance/mods to anything on/around the hood or structure. Hood has and is always properly secure!

The front is secure, it was the trailing edge of the hood that was vibrating.

There was no vibration transmitted into the stearing wheel or body. Area is clear of tools, hardware has not broken any paint to indicate rotation.

My exterior front end is factory. Do you guys have hood spoilers? confused

Keep the sugestions comming! thumbsup

^^^I'm like you I hit 120+ daily That's why I was flip'n out when it happoned! The river bridge is over 100' in the air and there was a cross wind.

confused How will hood pins in the front keep the trailing edge from flaping? confused

I went out and pulled on the hood scoop to get the hood to flex. Nothing in the front of the hood moves. The rear of the hood has a huge brace that crosses that trailing edge. The welds are good. I also checked the plastic piece that is under the wiper arms. It is secure. My panels under the car are installed! I guess I'll count it as a fluke!

Thanks for all the input!

Mine flaps around a little bit also over a hindred. I checked on mine and the bolts that secure the hinges were a little bit loose. I tightened theose and it made a small difference I think, but I'm thinking it's more just the material flexing than anything else. I have all stock stuff too, no carbon, and no hoodpins, but then again, I think I'm actually the only one here who read your post in it's entirety and heard that it's the trailing edge, making hood pins completely not the point:) Tighten your hinge bolts maybe

wow yea i deff didnt read your whole post about it being the back of the hood vibrating. I swore mine was the other day going 90 but when i stopped a tried to shake it to see if it was loose but it wasnt. I think it was jsut in my head. I dont think there is anything wrong and you shouldnt really worry about it.

your talking about the back end of the hood closest the windshield right? i have a carbon fiber hood and mine does that at like 60.. and yah my stock hood did that too.. i think it was faster than 60 tho.. i think its normal.. if not.. i dunno how to fix that

yeah my carbon fiber hood shakes in the middle were the oem style scoop is. i think my problem is air resentance from the hole in the hood not allowing the air to flow easily enough. so i used a dremel and made the hole under the scoop to allow the air in the engine bay bigger, and i don't think it helped much if at all other than more air is getting to the engine. so i bought the raised hood scoop in hopes happywink that it will help

i have never heard of the ends shaking though, but i would most definetly check to see if the hinge bolts are tightened down wave

haha that's so funny, but that has happened so many times to me. i've forgotten sockets and screwdrivers and wrenches under my hood. i get so anxious to see how my new parts work that i slam the hood and hit the road.

This may be a stupid question, for Carbon Fiber hoods, do you just have someone drill holes for the hood pins? and...does anyone know some sites/places to look at Carbon Fiber hoods bc I want to get the OEM style or something similar...lemme know

oh and pics, if anyone has close pics of a celica with one (my car is black so I wanna see wut it would look like)

hood pins are not oem. They are those metal latches you see ontop of poeles carbon fiber hoods. U need 2 holes. because carbon fiber to so tempermental i woudl ahve a shop do it. There are aslo 2 spots under the hood where they shoudl attatch to so you need to make sure you get the right spot.I dont have them so somone with pins let me know if i missed anyhting.

Most C/f hoods come with an oem style hood latch underneatch but becasue its attached to either c/f and/or fiberglass (dpending on if ur double sisded or not) it may not be strong enough which is why you need pins smile

The hoodscoops definitely don't help the flop, thats for sure. The OEM hoods have no holes under the scoop for the air to pass through, so there is more resistance hence hood flop. Its a shame the way the engines are designed, ram air or cowl inducted air could help the motors out a lot.

back / trailing edge yea! (talk so much aircraft jargon, I forget to speak english sometimes sorry rofl) If one was to hook up some SCAT hose to the hood scoop after cuting a hole in it, and connecting it to a short intake pipe, would the engine get hydrolock in a down pour? Hydrolock is caused ONLY by snorting water puddles right?!

This hose is cool stuff. It is used all the time in general aviation engine intakes (in such applications)!

It would be cool to make a ram air intake but the hood scoop is designed to let air run down the back of the engine to cool the header. i looked into it awhile ago but i ran into the same problem. Also ive done around a 100 with a raised hood scoop and never noticed a movement in my hood. you might just have something loose or you had something under the hood to keep it from closing all the way.

it's all good with no cross wind. The clearance under the hood for routing to the scoop is almost imposable!!

i got a carbon fiber oem hood on my car. it looks good, but i didn't put hood pins on yet. i'm gonna try to sell my oem carbon fiber hood so i can get the carbon fiber evo hood. the company that makes my hood is fiber images. the hood was about $700 brand new. i'm gonna hopefully get about $400 for it. all it needs is a clearcoat. i have a pic of the hood on my carbon blue celica, but the pic quality is shitty

i tried the forced air intake. its not really forced air, but ram air. i was goin to try to route the air from my hood scoop to my cai. i did do that, but it was routed to my front grill. it didn't work though. cry there was no difference.
