I had my 2000 GTS about a mouth now. When I first got my car I already noticed that there are grinding problem

with the reverse gear and down shifting from 5th to 4th. I took it the AAMCO and they came up whole bunch of

internal parts that needed to be replaced. Here's the list:
6th gear contershaft
1-2 shift fork
1-2 blocking rings
3-4 hub & slide assembly
3-4 shift fork
3-4 blocking rings
carrier bearings
input bearing main shaft
input bearing counter shaft
rear bearing main shaft
rear bearing counter shaft
axle seals
input seal
shift shaft seal
complete clutch assembly

I was glad that my extended warranty took care of everything @@"

Anyways, after AAMCO done with the job, I really like how the new clutch feels
and the grinding from 5th to 4th is gone as well, but still...
the damn reverse grinding problem still bugging me so bad.
It happens pretty often like 1 out of 3 times. especially when i do parallel parking that requires me shifting
1st and reverse back and forth.
So, do you guys think that might be the sycho problem or something else? Any suggestion what to look into?

i cant really tell you if there is anything wrong with your car but i do
know this if the car has any forward motion what so ever it will grind
if you try to put it in reverse. at least its that way in my car.

MY car grinds when it sits still while trying to shift it to reverse. No any forward motion at all when it grinds...and it tends to shift better when I rev a little before i shift it into reverse. Sounds weird?

hey, do you know what parts on that list you used to fix your grinding from 5th to 4th problem? Mine does that to, so for the past 6 months i haven't down shifted into 4th without going into 3rd first, bugs the hell out of me.

The cost including the clutch assmbly and labor came out $2500 and my extended warranty company took care of it.
I think the grinding problem from 5th to 4th shouldnt be the same on each of our cars. You might have different issue than i do, so i cant really tell rather if you replace the part that i listed above will definitely help your problem. The thing is whenever people talks about grinding gear issues, most of the member here tend to point at the synchro automatically. But my list above has nothing deal with the synchro?? and it took care my grinding issue from 5th to 4th...but the reverse still bugging hell out of me frown
I think im going back to AAMCO to have them check it again.

I'll keep it updated

One more thing,
With the clutch down and shift it into reverse, it grinds only once.
What i mean by that, as if i hold the clutch down shift into reverse...GRINDS...back to neutral and shift it into reverse (the whole time with the clutch down) it shifts perfectly smooth~

I have this issue as well. Try holding in the clutch throwing it into first then changing into reverse without letting go of the clutch. Cant remember where i got it from, but has helped me and a few others as well.
