What is the function of this part (the one with the yellow arrows)?

I know it is part of the shift linkage, but what exactly dose it do?

Sorry RookieGTS, I borrowed this pic from your profile.

Looks lke a counter-balance for the shift mechanism to me. It catches mice that are sneeking around the tranny!

iunno, but if you spray white lithium grease on the 4 joints located on it, shifting is 100% smoother!

Those frickin Mice! rofl

Yeah it's definitely weighted on the one end. When I was spraying lithium grease on my shift linkage to get rid of the squeak when shifting from 1st to 2nd (maybe the squeaking sound was the mice getting hit in the head) I noticed that it seems to be on a ratcheted pivot.

When I moved it I was worried that I might have screwed something up, but no need to worry everything was fine.

At first I thought it was black too, but I think it's just shadowed. It looks polished, but not glowing under light, covered by darkness.

you can move that "part" side to side and it moves your stick shifter its pretty cool! I was moving it back and fourth while my dad was helping me with a problem and he said the stick shifter was moving while i was moving it from side to side spineyes

Yeah, I was reading about that in the manual, they said I should tie it down with 20 feet of flight line and fill it up with a bucket of prop wash for maximum performance spineyes
