2001 celica. Has anyone ever removed head to replace gasket WITHOUT removing timing chain COVER?

I think I have the same problem as you, with a oil leak coming from the cover.
Did you have any luck with replacing the gasket without removing cover?

I removed timing chain and timing chain cover to replace head gasket.
