Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior Replacing Door Speakers: Hard?

I was wondering who here has replaced their door speakers? And if so if anybody used an amplifier with them? I will be recieving an Infinity Reference Component System and and amp to power them on Friday and am trying to figure out how difficult this will be to install. I read through the install on it, but I do not believe they used an amp with that set up so does anybody know how hard it is to run new speaker wire into the doors? Any hints or advice on the entire project would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Tons of people here have done it. I've done what you're doing except I used the stock wiring in place in the doors instead of running new wire. Chalk it up to my laziness... big enough damn project as it was... sheesh

Well, you have 2 options to replace the mid bass speaker. You can try to get the stock speaker out of the plastic housing and mount the infiniti in there (if it fits) or you have to make an MDF panel then mount the infiniti to it. The tweeter is relatively simple. Your best bet for wiring to save you the headache is to run the wires from the amp to the back of the headunit, and just use the factory wiring from there. (splice into the factory wiring)I know it's not 100% the best, but if you can hear the difference (and I doubt anyone can) then I would just do that. Running the wires thru the doors is an nightmare.

Just buy a new mount from crutchfield.com and drill the rivets out

I found it a lot harder then it looked.I attempted to install Infinity Kappa 60.5CS 6-1/2" (Front Speakers)
Infinity Kappa 63.5i 3-way 6.5"(Rear Speakers)powered by a
Rockford Fosgate 801x.After a couple of hours I gave up and took it to circuit city and it took them 8 hours.

8 hours! Oh man this is gonna be fun.

Why? It never took me more than 20 minutes or so per speaker to drill the rivets out, cut the factory speaker out, snip the plastic braces holding the magnet of the factory speaker in so I had a clean mount, and drill four screws into the factory mount so my new speaker was mounted, and then bolt it back into the door, and connect the wiring. I'd say all together I spent an hour and a half doing all four, it's not hard and it's the first time I've ever done a stereo install, having owned my Celica less than a month.

I have a few pics of my new 6.5"s screwed into the factory mounts and such from the install I did last week.

I have a 2000 Toyota celica GTS, I have an after market deck and amp and subwoofer in it. My front speakers are blown, so I removed my door panels to replace the speakers on each side. I don't need the tweeters replaced, they are still good. But I noticed there are 4 wires going to the tweeter and 4 to the speaker (woofer). Are these wired in parallel? Is there a way to leave the tweeter as is and install a component speaker with tweeter instead of mid as 1 unit?
