Newbie here. Just scored a good deal on a 2000 GT this fall. Looking to do a bit of work on her at a time. The most obvious issue is the exhaust is LOUD. It's stock and someone decided to attempt to patch it up because we're in NY and are subject to the craziness that are emissions laws here (to clarify, I am in southwestern NY and faaaaar away from NYC and other cities so emissions standards are stupid to have here and just a way for the gubmint to levy more charges on us John Q. Publics. IDGAF about all that crap. I can have a cat and resonator assembly shipped to my GF's home in PA (about 15 minutes from me) and bypass all that BS. CARB compliant CA emissions systems are about twice what the 48-state legal ones are. LITERAL highway theft. Therefore a crappy patch job was done and now that's failing.
What I'm interested in is just getting everything from the cat to the tip replaced. Not really concerned with a performance boost, I just don't want my car sounding like ass. I have heard all of the demos on YouTube for catback systems and they're all way too buzzy for me. I don't want to sound like a rice burner. I would appreciate it if I could get a nice, throaty rumble out of it but it is a 4-banger so I can't hope for too deep simply because of the inherent lack of mass. Plus the cost...THE COST!!
So I realize that I'm the odd man out here, but I just want a stock system (or close to stock) that doesn't make the neighbors hate me and that doesn't kill my hearing over a prolonged period of time. One of thee days I may replace the muff with a catback but for now I just want quiet.
I see that I can score a basic system on RockAuto for around $389, shipped. Bosal muff and a basic (non-NY legal; OH, WELL!) Eastern Catalytic ECO III cat/rez pipe assembly.
Suggestions O, Celica Masters? I just want inexpensive and non-buzzy.
