Celica Forums General Discussion Engine and Performance GTS engine in a GT?

Hey! I was just wondering how difficult it would be to transplant a VVTL-i engine into a GT? I assume you'd have to change your clutch too since the GTS is a 6 speed. Is it possible? Is it practical (probably not hehe)

I was also wondering where you might find 2zz engines online?

with the money your putting in to swapping, you might as well buy a GTS.

probably not practical since a GTS is only going to be a few thousand difference from a gt. so unless you've already got a shitload of stuff invested into this car like custom paint and moulded body kit, custom uplostury and stereo painted dash, etc.. I'd sell your GT and get a GTS. now if you are going to do all the work yourself it might be an interesting learning experience and fun to do just for fun.. the engine I heard is 1800 dollars and you can probably get it from a toyota dealership or an autoparts store for that without having to pay shipping but you'd have to pay tax. Monkeywrench.com has built blocks with different upgrades might want to look into something like that. but you could probably get more horsepower for a cheaper price by turboing your existing GT motor with a c2power.com turbo kit for about 3700 since you'd probably need to buy the tranny with the GTS motor as well for another 2 grand. and with that turbo kit you'd be running a lot more HP than a stock GTS motor.

in other words, just turbo your gt man

turbo isn't as reliable as a stock 2zz engine.. turbo can lead to more problems and actually be more costly than say an engine swap.. but its wishful thinking to get a 2zz for 1800

MY gt motor blew up...I Ann just interested in can a gts motor dropped into MY 2000 gt rather easily or is there a brain busting load of mods to take care of, like ECU, TRANSMISSION, ETC...IS IT WORTH MY TIME AND EFFORT AND THE FELLOWSHIP OF MY SON AND ME TAKING THIS PROTECT TOGETHER?

@Toy37orBust, for a nearly 18 year old car, its probably cheaper and easier to just scrap your totaled GT for parts. Then start over with the GT-S.

If purchasing from a private-party or dealership lot, you're looking at a total cost of about $3k - $8k for a GT-S in 2018.

Well, the problem is I still owe a little inn the gt and it's not too bad body wise. I was thinking about rebuilding the motor. Fortunately, the credit union I have the loan through is flexible enough to throw me a bone extending the loan to help me get it going again, rather than have me default on the loan and they repossess a blowed up car. Mary Lou is an elderly lady that runs the credit union here where I work, and I don't want to do that to her, and she wants to help. I guess I need to get the motor out of it, tear it down, see what the problem is then go from there. I was hoping it was a simple gig to drop a gts motor in, but it doesn't sound like it is. I also heard that turbo on the gt was a waste of time and not to expect a whole bunch from it. Decisions, decisions...I just want some more horses because it is a sporty little car to drive, but lacks power to be real fun...I also have a friend of mine in the junk yard business TRYING to find a wrecked gts for me...I will just have to see...any other help would be appreciated.
