Hey all,

I've always wanted a Celica and am in the market for purchasing a used 2000 to 2005 gt-s. A couple of questions before I commit...

What should I look for body kit wise and mileage wise? The lowest miles I'm seeing are around 100k and some have no body kits. Others are priced about the same with 175k to 200k with compete kits like TRD and Evo or mix n match.

Should I get a stock gt-s with low miles and upgrade as I go? Or more miles and a future engine n tranny swap with kit preinstalled.

How reliable are the engines? (assuming they were taken care of)

Any tips pointers and tricks that could be helpful on my buying journey would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance all!!

Prices vary greatly depending on location, availability, and demand.

I'm not shocked by your observation regarding the similarities in price between low mileage/no body kit and high mileage/body kit. I've had similar findings. Just depends on your preference and budget.

I personally would get a stock GTS and upgrade as you go, I think it's more rewarding and fun.

Assuming the engine was taken care of, you should have no problem getting your money's worth. My GTS is at 201k miles and going strong.

Whatever you do, just make sure you get a manual. The GTS auto doesn't compare to the manual.

I agree with you, to purchase stock and upgrade yourself is definitely more rewarding in the long run.

I've been looking, well, anywhere in Florida. Prices aren't that bad, and their are a couple of decent Cars. Just waiting for that one to post up that tickles my fancy.

Manual is the way to go! Surprisingly, the manual gts celica are going for around 500 less than the automatics. So this is in my favor lol.

I suppose the manuals may go for less because of traffic/driving conditions? I'm not sure where you're located but I don't know what else would explain that.

I believe your right about the manual celicas. I'm located in South West Florida in the sarasota area. But it's been pretty hard to find a decent manual with anything under 120k within 200 miles. I'm shooting for around 90k but as always, less is better!

I will keep this thread updated with possible purchases and any questions I may have.
