ok i don't even know how this came to my head, it popped outta nowhere one day. anyway, you think it's possible to give the celica a removable targa top? like the mkiv supra's and some of the new vettes. think anyone out there would know how to do it?

I have pondered this idea many time myself. I believe it is very possible, you just have to have sufficient funds. As it goes with cars, money is a big issue.

to do that, it would require heavy modification to the roof, which equals lots of $$

You have to think about what it will do support wise. I saw an Eclipse that had a custom targa top, Ill try and find that article again. Maybe its usable for a celica.

I don't think it would work...
they wouldn't really be targa tops, because the celica has a frameless window. The seal is made to the window by a rubber "flange" that is built into the roof.

You would have major leaks.

I've already looked into this actually. The bodyshop guy said that due to the way the car's structure is built, a targa/convertible/t-top is not possible. The car will cave in on itself. frown

You can do anything you want to to a car as long as you got $$$. You could even make it fly grin
