wow roofscoops are only like $80 and if you dont have a moonroof they can look very nice, what do you guys think of this (and by the way you will be paying like $300 in painting and molding)
I personally have a problem roof scoops on front engine cars.
It's so obviouse that it is completely non-functional that when I look at it, instead of thinking "cool" I automatically and instinctively think "why?".
I don't have a problem with non-functional things on a car that could potentially be functional, like people with Celica's who mold side vents into their car for example. When I see side vents on a car my brain accepts it because vents in that location could provide cooling to the rear brakes, but when I see a roof scoop on a front engine car my brain thinks "hmmm, I wonder where that air is going?".

Hm...not really my cup of tea...I think it takes away from the car a little..BUT where did you get that pic? That car looks oddly familiar
wonder how some rally cars have those roof scoops? wut's that used for? stable the car or cool the rear brakes?!
My guess would be that it's for extra cooling of the interior. Because they want to minimize the weight of the car a lot of the original vents, pipings and fan will be removed. But I'm just guessing.
A few months ago on Eurosport I saw a bird coming into the rallycar thru the roofscoop. It was shot with the onboard camera. The driver himself didn't even notice it.
the only cars that should have roofscoops are midengine and rear engine cars. there is a mr-2 with the scoops, and they are functional. but ya a scoop on the celi is just ewww. when i first opened the hood of my car i was like what the hell is that scoop for. but then i followed the routing, so it is used for cooling just like the side scoops for brakes

Yeah exactly, its used in ralley cars since they have no AC to get cool air into the cabin...
I think it looks neat, but then again Im a HUGE fan of Rallying and so Im into the whole "rally car look"...

first of all if you dont have a fast car, than dont make it look fast!that kinda makes you a poser spend money on makeing it fast and then worry about scoops and vents.

a hood scope on a celica is only going to hinder the performance.
Where is the air going to go, and what kinda racket are you going to hear in teh cockpit driving 120+
Oh wait, most people never use their Rice, they just like to show it off
To have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation To know even one life has breathed easier This is to have succeeded.
For reals though, where is all that air supposed to go when you're going extremely fast? Watch that thing is going to get so much air in it and create so much drag it's going to rip off the roof.

Roof scoops on front wheel drive or rally cars are used to pressurize the interior. It helps keep dirt and dust from coming inside. So if your on a back road or a dirt track, it would be very funtional. As far as it being rice or someone hacking on it. They've probably never driven on a dirt track or raced much for that matter. So if you like it that's all that matters.
