I own a 2000 Celica GTS automatic. The car idles fine in park, but when I put into gear, the RPMs take a heavy drop, more so in reverse. The RPMs drop less as the car warms up and been around town. I’ve cleaned the throttle body extremely well, but I haven’t done the mass airflow sensor yet. But I seriously don’t think that will fix the issue. Any thoughts?

Yes. Both GTS models have a special transmission. Manual GTS having a 6 speed compared to the 5 speed on the GT, and the automatic GTS having a duel clutch compared to the GT not having one.
