The 7th Gen celica comes standard with High Performance plugs... "Denso Iridium" - the upgrade would be "Denso Iridium Power" plugs for about $53 at Autozone or about $70 at your local Toyota parts department (IK16 for GT owners & IK20 for GTS owners)

By downgrading to the Platinum series - you will loose aprox 5hp and possibly damage your GTS/2zz-ge engine by not alowing it the proper spark (think of it like putting in 87 octane fuel into your car that requires 91 octane fuel)

This dyno is a Mitsubishi Galant 2.5 V6. Compared to platina spark plugs. It clearly shows that a 5 hp difference...

We have individual coils for our plugs...
notice the plugs at the top of the engine...
(ignore the blue arrow - its pointing to the fuel rail)

Went and picked up a 4 pack of these at autozone last night. $51.xx before tax. Anyways,I was just wondering on how to change them. I know where they are, but was just wondering who here has done it and how they accomplished it. And did you guys adjust the gap on your plugs? The cashier at AutoZone said about 44 thousandths would be perfect. I just sort of agreed with him and said thanks. I thought all plugs came factory gapped and didn't require it. Oh well, any insight is appreciated. Thanks.

take out the small screws holding down the individual coils, undo the connectors that connects the coil from the wiring part, then pull up on the coil.
next take your tools,(ratchet/long extension/socket) i forgot what size, but i know it's not 5/8ths socket... unscrew the old plugs and then take the coil and put it back in and slightly push it on the plug so that you can pull it out with the plug partly connected.

and then put in the new plugs and tighten to spec, but all i usually do is tighten it enough so that its good n tight but not overtightend.
you don't want to be stuck with a broken spark plug with the threads stuck/stripped in and the other half broke, then you're screwed.

refer to your manual for gap size. i think it might be on a sticker under your hood or somewhere on the engine bay/chasis too.

I came from the land of CHEVY small block racing and we did a trick with the position of the "L" of the plug. It is called plug indexing, you position the L at a 90 degree to in intake valve so the flame kernel is not hidden from the fuel/air flow. Better burn, they make copper plug spacer washers in different mils to do this. Mark your plug ( not with a lead pencil) and add shims to get the angle. Every horsepower counts when it"s on the line.

How is NGK LASER IRIDIUM? Idk what's currently in mine I just bought it and I'm trying to fix a p0300 and p0304 misfire code and I'm starting with plugs but I want good high performance plugs not just for life length but mostly for power and performance so if not what I got then what would be the best?
