Hey Celica Community.

I know the whole Gear Oil argument dates back a whole 15 years and still nobody knows the proper answer, but I need to know if GL5 gear oil could cause hard shifts or grinding in my 2000 model C60. I'm headed out tomorrow probably to by GL4 gear oil and change it to see if that helps anything, I just wanted to see if I could get an answer somewhere on her first.

All answers appreciated.

According to the Toyota Celica repair manual on page 412 (MX-6), the oil grade should be API GL-4 or GL-5 viscosity: SAE 75W-90 and the fill capacity should be 2.3 liters (2.4 US Quarts)

So, if Toyota is to be believed their Celica product can use both safely so long as it's the correct viscosity. I hope that helps amigo. Sorry the reply is several months late and likely no longer applies to you, but perhaps someone else looking for this answer may benefit.
