So I'm new to the world of cars and I was wondering if it were possible in any way to be able to swap a 6-speed mt out for a 5-speed mt. I have a 2002 GTS and it seems as if I can only find the 5-speeds instead of the 6.

Hey, welcome!

The way you word your question, it sounds like the 6 speed that came in your GTS needs replaced, but you can only source a 5 speed? Is that the case here?

Gotcha. The 5 speed is called the C56 and the 6 speed is called the C60. The GTS uses the 2zz engine. Looks like these are your options as far as bolt-on swaps go:

5 speed to 6 speed with the 1zz
4 auto to 6 speed- 2zz
4 auto to 5 speed-1zz
6 speed to 5 speed- 2zz

That last one is what you're aiming for. It should be a direct bolt-on.

Before you proceed, I would just tell you to consider the differences between the 5 and 6 speed gear boxes. The 5 speed has longer gears than the 6 speed, and as such, takes longer time to hit lift. However, if you aren't building a race car, things should be okay.

I just realized that was more information than you asked for (I like to be thorough), so if you've got questions, let me know!

I mean theoretically yes, but I'm not sure how you'd configure the ECU. Would be easier to drop a 6 speed into the auto GTS for the ECU sake.
