Just curious, but does anyone keep their traction control off permanently? The benefits aren't nearly as great as on a RWD car, but out of interest????

I didn't either... Is this a euro-spec option, cause I'm pretty sure the US-spec doesn't have that? confused

The Celica doesn't have Traction Control.. although for the price of the car it should. Mostly expensive cars have this option.. and even then.

Look under the steering wheel around where your knee sits. Thats where the button is to turn off the traction control. The T Sport somes with traction control and electronic stability control. When you corner too fast it cuts the engine power accordingly and applies different braking pressure to each wheel. While its doing so a light flashes and you hear a loud beeping sound. Its a bit daunting the first few times it happens, but it gives you confidence to push it harder each time. In the manual Toyota explains that its not a life saver and can only help you up to certain extremes. rofl rofl

The first time the revs dropped down to 1000 mid corner. I thought the engine had cut out. Then coming out of the corner they shot back into lift.

I think most new FWD cars came with traction control now. Even my mothers Skoda (the new variety) came with traction control

the only thing around the knee is the lever to open the hood. What the hell are you smoking? You need to pass it on to everybody else.

if the japan spec celica doesn't have traction control or esc, then no other models will so check that first.

This is b.s., let's see some pictures then man.

The allegid traction control sounds like it acts pretty weird though.. drops down to only 1000rpm and then after shoots up to like 6000rpm? If you're speeding around a corner and your car suddenly drops into 1000rpm I imagine the whole car is going to jolt or jump.

Soon as cars back from being repaired I'll get pictures. And I'll scan the details from the manual.

...Or even better maybe somebody from Europe or the UK could back me up.

The Fiat Coupe, Civic Type R, Golf GTi, Clio 172, Seat Leon 20v Turbo, Mini Cooper S, Astra GSi Turbo, Hyundai Coupe... all are FWD and all have traction control. And the Celica has it 100% because it flickers on and off on every wet day.

The first think most people do with their Corvettes & so on is have the traction control disabled (for those that do not have a button to control it). It sucks having 700HP & you can't even drift. thumbsdown

I can't see the reason for it not being on the US Celica. 190bhp is a lot of power to the front wheels. In the wet it wouldn't be too difficult to oversteer yourself into the nearest lamp post. Its obviously a safety feature in everyday driving and I thought the Americans were the most safety concious people of all. Does the US spec Celica come with ABS??????

I wonder if the traction control system has anything to do with why Toyota quotes 6.6 0-60mph for the GTS and 7.2 for the T Sport. Maybe by decreasing power for better traction on a standing start, the system actually hinders the cars progress overall. Hmmmm

G'day guys, I'm from Australia and I own a 2001 Japanese ZR GTS. There is NO traction control on the Japanese version, that's for sure, just to help those wondering smile

JAPANESE IMPORTED ZR GTS MODEL TO AUSTRALIA.

w/ TRD body kit
TRD suspension kit
(HAD) TRD KAZUMA EXHAUST SYSTEM, SWAPPED OUT FOR HKS HI POWER CATBACK.
ORIGINAL TRD RACING SEATS.
GTS BRAKE KIT, DISCS SWAPPED OUT FOR CROSS-DRILLED AND SLOT-VENTILATED DISCS WITH BENDIX PRESTIGE PADS AND GTS CALIPERS AND BRAKE LINES. (STOPS 100-0 KM/H IN 3.4 Seconds)

Dyno's @ 233hp during lift @ 8200rpm. 176hp @ 5800rpm.

It really is a racing machine, it is n/a, however forced induction mods may come in future. I found myself a bargain with this vehicle and I f#&*ing love it!

Just joined CelicaHobby and am interested in anything you guys wanna talk about regarding our favourite car smile
