Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior people with kaminari kit, please help me outn side-skirt attachm

For those of you with kaminarikit,

I was wondering where the sideskirts need to be attached. On the underside of the car offcourse, but it seems to me that should be enough. They slide over the factory sideskirt and when drilled onto the bottom of the car they should have no place to go right?

OR do they need to be drilled in the wheel wells too?
Other places?
Please help me out here.

Isaac: Yes, I saw that, I was just wondering if the Kaminari skirts need to be attachted there too, they don't go up as high as the other sidekirts in the picture do.
So I figured the screws on the bottom side of the car should be enough. Hoping someone can tell me right or wrong

Same here, your skirts go up a lot higher than the kaminari skirts. I doubt there is a need to drill them in the wheel wells, because they are level with the factory skirts which are attached to the bottom only too..

well what the body shop did for me was drilled two screws in the front, and one in the back... and not placed any under the car... he also kept the OEM on also... this way it made it easier for me to take off when toyota needs to lift my car for oil change... or alignment...

the body shop that installed my kaminari side skirts put screws in the wheel well part, now there are little cracks on both the left and right skirts.

Obviously they didn't bother to drill holes for the screws.

self-taping screws don't need pre-drilled holes...

What it sounds like is that the bodyshop installed the screws too tightly, cracking the fiberglass... the screws only need to be install tight enough to keep the skirts from flying off - they don't need to be so tight that they go through the entire car and out the front

any other people with kaminari kit to tell me where/how their sideskirts are attached?

Keep the stock sides skirts on, two screws in the front wheel well, two in the rear, and six screws underneath the car.

Do the screws in the back and front really go in the wheel well (through the metal?) or in the front and rear of the stock sideskirts?

It looks like in the front and rear of the side skirts ... if you do a search in this forums ... somewhere ???? are the pictures of how my side skirts are attached.

I saw on your car the kaminari skirts don't use screw in the door-hole. Isaac has 4 screws there according to his install guide. I was hoping not having to drill there.
Thankfully I was right.

I found the following pic of your car, showing the screws in the front of your right skirt. You can see it's drilled in the front indeed. I will try to drill the screws in the skirts, plastic won't rust...

No I had much better pictures, but apperently they got removed. Don't know what happened to them.

those screws by the wheelwell are major!! i got mine back from the shop w/o them, after a few weeks the skirts started to move. after i showed it to the shop they put 2 in the wheelwell and 3 on the top. now it doesn't move @ all!!!

Ricepowered: now that's a clear pic I know what to do now.
I think I'll get by without drilling into the top of the skirts in the door well (is that what it's called?).
That way it'l be a clean install

hmmm...if i remember correctly VSGTS had heaps of screws on top of his VS side skirts as well eventho mine doesnt have any at all. he said his shop messed it up or something. so if the kaminari is anything like the VS sides, i dont think it needs it.

Do a search I asked the same thing 6 months ago and "mono boy" posted an excellent response with tons of pics.

Oh BTW, those pictures aren't up anymore because Isaac cleaned out the new images gallery
