I've been having a reoccuring problem with my CEL. The dealer WILL NOT tell me what the code is, I have fought with them and they will not tell me. Also, the only auto-place within about 50 miles of me is a pep-boys, and I asked them if they had a way to check the code on an CEL, and the guy was like "uhm, you can get a tune up" so thats not an option. Here are some of the symptoms, I'm looking for some of the things I should do to see if I can make it go away. 1. It seems to happen only when I drive short distances. I reset the check engine light with battery removal, drove for about 300 miles (one trip to PA) no CEL. I came home, filled the tank, clicked the cap down all the way, drive about 20 miles a day in short trips, half tank of gas, the light comes on. 2. The only mod on the car WAS a K&N filter, but I took that out the other day to see if that was the problem. Is it possible the thing was too oily (from factory) and it messed up the MAF? 3. car gets proper gas, cap is always clicked down. I even bought a new gas cap in case the other one was faulty. All I've EVER heard from my dealer is that it's an EVAP code. They refuse to fix it, telling me I leave the gas cap off and I'm wasting their time. Any ideas?

Dude, do you have access to a laptop. or even buy a used cheap one on Ebay. Then get this unit----------> Scan tool [ scantool.net] K&N too much oil, probably contaminated the MAF sensor. My scantool works like a charm, and it's definitly worth the money.

hmmmmmmmm ... well if they keep telling you that you leave your gas cap off, either A) your not clicking it 3-5 times after it's tight. or B) your gas cap has a pressure leak and you need a new one. Good Luck

Good Luck I click it about 7 times each time. I bought a new gas cap from toyota, they told me I left it hanging off the car. I'm not a baby, I can close the cap gasp

What would I need to do to do that? The filter I have is really oily, more so than the ones I've had before. Is the celica sensitive to that?

I have the same problem, I took my car up to autozone (they do free diagnostics) and they told me that it was the evap hose pressure or something, he even gave me the tickets with the codes and descriptions on it but then I talked to a friend and said that b/c I have a Short Ram Intake and b/c it's getting cold here The car isn't used to getting so much cold air all of a sudden so I reset my ECU then about a week later, it's back on, I guess I should take it to Toyota but I know all they will say is "it's because of your intake" even though I've had it for like 2 months w/ no problems

Well I just got back from Toyota and they said the same thing, I need to close my fuel cap tighter. They also said that if you don't close enough even once, it will take about 40 cycles for the ECU to figure out that everythings cool, he also said that he could have run a full test on my car to make sure that's the only thing wrong but I didn't have the time today, I'll probably do it Sunday, I'll let you guys know what I find

Save money? If you can get a diagnostic for FREE at autozone, how am I saving money If I spend money to buy this tool?
