I have a 00 GTS and i can't get it passed 120. I've heard that there is a chip in the car that won't let it pass a certain mph. Can anyone help?

HAHA its called a govener that controls your transmission but if you take it out and go past 120 i heard it will mess up the odometer reading.

I have 02 GTS 6speed...
Took it up to 137.. won't go any faster..

You should redline the 5th and pop it in 6th...
I can't hit the lift on 6th..

It depends on where you buy your celica.
In japan, normal ECU does not allow speed above 180km without mods. Terrible!

Where are you from? I live in Canada, and in my '02 GT I hit 125 MPH (200 KPH) with still room to go (I had to slow down because of a curve ahead). So I don't understand why your car wouldn't pass 120 MPH.

I'm from Quebec, Canada like Tzvetan and my 2002 manual Celica GT get 215kph (134mph).

It need a very long straight to get this speed thought.. i never calculated the time i takes me to get that's speed. I'll come back with this tomorrow.

I'll test it on the Highway tonight with my radar detector for sure... [Razz]

(take note that i got this speed with the cheap stock tire that came with the car, so it's not a Tire/Rims bad ratio

I did 137MPH on those wonderfull Canadian Highways, too many F%$^king cops in the US.

This was on that brand new highway they got runnin grin g north of Toronto. It is suppoce to be a toll road but that is only if you live in Canada. They dont charge if you are from the US

+ Canadian cops are not allowed to really chase you.

Ya baby...

its called the 407 etr (express toll route). smile
just becareful because the opp (ontario provincial police) hide on the on ramps and clock you. you can't see them if you are going straight on the highway.

i live in hawaii. and it's hard to really max out the car. but, according to my friend, we were going bout 150mph and he was right next to me. so maxing out at 120 sounds kinda messed up.
