Installed my Sony Xplod 2x200 RMS amp last week. Made 2 poly/mdf sub-boxes behind my rear wheel wells.
When I connect 1 sub it's a very nice bass, when I turn it up too loud it goes a bit flat. I tried both subs connected separate, they're both fine.
When I connect both subs the bass is less than with just 1 sub connected. When they are both connected I have less bass and my headlights dim to the music.
I ordered a 2.4 Farad Capacitor. Will that fix the problem?
Will post pics soon when the trunk is completely done

I'd say that would get rid of 90% of the problem, the only way to 100% get rid of he problem would be to increase the charging system, a bigger alternater

try reversing the wires to one sub and see if that helps - if they are out of phase they will work against each other.

ya i was gonna say that, what is the ohms of the subs? 2 4 or 8? if wire the speakers in series, then you will not only double the ohms, which will 1/2 the power of the amp, so each speaker will get 1/4 of the power of just one. if you wire them in parallel, each speaker will get the same wattage as just the single speaker. which results in a +3db gain. are you hooking your speakers up in stereo, or mono. subwoofers are non-directional, so you should have them in mono.

what is the amp model ? is it the xm2165gtx? that amp is rated at 200x2 @ 2ohm, but only 400x1 @ 4 ohm. if you have 2 4 ohm speakers and you bridge the amp, you will have to run the speakers in series as to not blow the amp, but then that would have the amp "see" a 8ohm load, which will put out 200 watts, 100 per speaker. while if you have a single 4ohm driver, you will get 400 watts for it, which will give you a 3db advantage over the 2 speakers

yeah a power cap will fix the problem but i think you ordered a lil to big of a cap. i have a 500WATT amp and i am running a .5Farad cap. i could use a 1Farad. 2.4 is too much unless you plan on connecting another amp or 2.

Here's my stuff. 2 Sony Xplod XS-L101P5 10" subs Max 1100 Watts RMS 300 Watts 4 ohm Sony Xplod XM-D400P5 Monoaural amp rated at : Max 400 Watts at 4 ohms Max 800 Watts at 2 ohms RMS 200 Watts at 4 ohms RMS 400 Watts at 2 ohms The amp has these connections (from left to right) Remote - Power (12v) - Ground - Speaker Neg - Speaker Pos - Speaker Neg - Speaker Pos I connected each sub to it's 'own' pair of pos and neg, but since both the pos's and neg's are internally connected according to the amp's scheme this would mean they are hooked in parallel which drops the resistance from 4 to 2 ohms, right? This is according to the amp's manual too. The subs are not out of phase because the woofer comes out at both of them at the same time. Can the subs be working against each other? They are oppposite of each other, but not directed at each other, they are at an angle. I don't have the capacitor in yet, might take a week or two (shipping from us to the netherlands) About the Capacitor: I know a 2.4F powercap is way too much, but the price-difference was only 15 usd with a 1F cap. 0.5F cap was 50 usd 1.0F cap was 90 usd 2.4F cap was 106 usd And since my motto is 'The bigger the better' This way I have the chance of hooking up way more amps

You should get 400 watts @ 2 ohms RMS(real wattage) by bridging. Connect both subs to the same terminals. This thing should kick like Bruce Lee!!! (parallel connection) Check your manual for bridging plus & minus terminals

(parallel connection) Check your manual for bridging plus & minus terminals I'll try the scheme from the amp AMP --------o-------- + ...| ...o--|-------- - ...|...| ...|...o-------- + ...| ...o----------- - ...| Ground -o (Ignore the dots, they are just for positioning) There's nothing in the manual about bridging. It's also not needed since the +'s are connected to each other and the -'s are connected to each other, so no matter If I bridge it or not, they are basically always connected to the same + and/or - and thus always bridged/parallel. Therefore 2 4 ohm subs will result in a 2 ohm resistance and putting out 2x 200 Watts RMS Here [ sm.crutchfield.com] 's the amp Here [ sm.crutchfield.com] 's the subs

I have 700 watts on mine on stock alternater and battery and mine never dims I am 100% sure I don't have wires crossed, everything is hooked up like it should. When I test the subs seperately they work fine. When connected both at the same time it just can't put down the power.
