I just bought an Alpine CDA-9815 and for some reason the sound quality isn't as good as stock. I can't get any bass like I used to with stock. Does anyone know how to adjust the EQ so it will sound better?

That happned when i switched my sony...but then i played w/it and found a "loud" setting...there probably is something similiar to that...other than that, turn the treble and bass up, the EQ if you wanna make custom all you needa know is that the left side is bass, right side is treble...alpine units are good, it'll be good once you figure it out.

i know what you are saying, when i switched out my stock with the kenwood 959 i think it was, i thought my speakers were shit! frown frown i called and complained like a mother, and even got an appointment to have to taken out, so then i went to the shop and bought my w7, cause i was going to anyways, well once i put that sub in, the speakers sounded amazing. Now i know there was no mid range bass and all but the loudness and highs were nuts. yadyada, i'd just put some subs in, and i'd bet you'd be happy. but also im sure there is a setting that will make them sound better

Tried playing around more and still can't get it...it sounds like no sound is coming out of the front speakers. Are there two speakers in each of the door panels? Is it possible that one of them isn't hooked up? My stock bass used to shake the door panels and now theres nothing. Any help would be awesome. thumbsup

Theres sound coming out...but no bass. I played around with some of the stuff but I really dont know what im doing. I thought there was a speaker on top of another speaker in the door panel. Is it possible that one of the speakers in the door panel isn't hooked up?

1) Read the Alpine owner's manual on all of the features of your unit. I have the CDA-7998 and, initially, I was overwhelmed with all of the features of the unit. After I understood the features better, I was able to get the system to sound MUCH better.
2) Turn ON your MEDIA EXPANDER (MX) feature. This is basically like a loudness button on most other decks...it will enhance bass, mids, and highs. There are three settings (1, 2, 3...at least on mine there is) and 3 gives you the highest OUTPUT change.
3) You have a 5-band parametric EQ. That means you have 5 EQ "slide-bars" that you can adjust the width (3 settings), the center frequency, and the volume of. I would recommend putting one slide bar at about 80 Hz, at the widest width, and about a 2 or 3 volume gain. Have another center frequency at about 120 with similar volume and width settings, and another at around 180 with similar valume and wide settings. You could also put another one around the 210 setting, if you would like. Then play around with the VOLUME, WIDTH, and center frequency until you are boosting the frequencies that sound best to your ear. NOTE: you can save these settings as presets #1-6 for future quick selection. ALSO NOTE: POP, ROCK, and DANCE songs typically will sound better with different settings, so play around a bit.
4) You have a Xover that you can set and I'm assuming you can set it for the SUB, FRONT, and REAR outputs separately. I would set the FRONT and REAR outputs at a crossover frequncy of about 60,70, or 80Hz with a -12db/octave slope.

what he said, i have the same unit as yours 9815 but no problem with it, sound quality is perfect thumbsup
take it back to the people who installed have them check it out

A-HA!...I just noticed that you have a GTS...those came with a PREMIUM sound system...Due to the amplifier installed in the car, many shops don't know how to wire the vehicle properly!

My guess is either they did not hookup all of the speakers, or they got their wires crossed somewhere.

I would ask them if when they installed your deck if they still used the factory amplifier or if they connected the alpine's speaker outputs directly to speaker wires...
They hooked the head unit direclty to the speakers...you can see the wires running behind the glove box when you take it down. I hope it is just a speaker problem because im really not good with all of the EQ stuff. Thanks for your help.

I had this exact problem when I got my Alpine IVA-801 installed. And I know how to FIX it! smile
Our doors have a 3-way cross over in them since as you can see from the pic someone posted that there are tweeters, midrange and subs (two in one) speakers. Shops are just used to 2-way crossovers and what we have is pretty uncommon to what they normally work on, I guess.
Doesn't the door make a good sub box? I love to feel it hit on my leg.

Thanks alot. thumbsup Ill bring it back today and see if they can take a look. Another thing i forgot to mention is that they couldn't hook up my tweeters because they said too much power would be going to them. Any ways I could hook them up with a Capacitator or something?

Are you sure? confused. All I want to do is get it back to how it sounded stock. I don't want to get new 3 ways because i thought 2 ways were better with subs. I dont have subs now but eventually want to get them.

I don't know if I'd show the same heart-felt distress that MrSilly expressed in his response, but I have heard that the wiring harness may cause some unwanted noise in your system. Yes, they do now make a wiring harness for the Celica GTS with the premium sound...you can find it >>> HERE <<< [scosche.com]

I've never had any personal experience with those, but apparently, they do work, but some people have complained about hearing some noise coming through their speakers. If the shop is just going to order a standard wiring harness for a 2000 Celica, that isn't going to do you any good because of the amplifier.

I would just ask them if the harness is specifically made for the Premium System with the external amplifier...if so, why not let them try it out...it is at THEIR cost.
Thanks for all your help guys. Yes, it is the harness for the premium system. Im bringing my car in on Thursday to have it installed. I'll keep everyone posted especially if there is an unwanted noise that I hear coming from the speakers.

Also, if i need to get them, what would you recommend for good 3 ways? And would 3 ways sound okay if I eventually want subs? Ive heard subs sound better if there the only things making bass and everything else is high.

Took the car back to Tweeter and the wiring harness the ordered didnt work at all. angry I finnaly just told the guy there to get the damn thing done before I got my money back and brought it to someone who knew what the hell they were doing. They had to rewire a couple things and now it sounds great. thumbsup Any one have suggestions on new components? It sounds good for now but im not sure how long everything is gonna hold up.
