Celica Forums General Discussion General Keyless Entry Not Working

When I got my used Celica from the Toyota dealer, the keyless remote entry was not working. The guy at the dealership said the battery was low and all I would need to do is replace the battery and it would work. So I replaced the battery a few days later, but the remote entry still did not work. The remote entry that came with it is an aftermarket part. I guess the guy who owned it before me put it in? Anyways, I called the company and got the reprogramming instructions because that is what I figured the problem was. I took a look at the instructions, which seem easy enough...the only problem is that I could not find where the reciever for the remote is under my dash. I looked under both dash sides. Does the Celica have a custom place where the reciever is put or am I just completely missing something here?

My keyless entry remote is a Carbine remote, FCC id: ELVMT6A

The dealer knew damn well it wasn't working correctly when he sold you the car. The reciever for mine is behind the compartment under the clock. Does the alarm work? Take some time & check out underneath the steering wheel for any hanging or loose wires or maybe even a popped fuse. Check power door lock fuse.

if its not under the steering wheel, it probably is below the left side air vent (drivers side) all the way at the bottom left of ur clutch. its before the left door (on the right of the left door looking from inside)

I looked under the dash for about 10 minutes and still could not find anything that would possibly represent a reciever. Maybe someone took it out? I dont know why they would do that. The auto door lock/unlock button in the car works, so it's not a fuse problem. I dont know what to do now.

that sucks bro...it is possible you don't have a receiver at all (for whatever reason...i do not know).

if this is the case, you can only 1. live with it or 2. buy another one. in any case...you got a bad deal on it and you should complain to that dealership

go and complain. let them install an original one for free since you bought it from the dealer. or else save some money and get some nice viper alarm or something better

lol. Did you get a discount for that defect? When I bought my used 2K GT, my stereo wasn't working and I got the dealer to take off a few hundred bux for it. As soon as I got home, I checked the fuses and sure enough one of them wasn't inserted right. I corrected it, and now I got a full functioning stereo that helped me get several hundred bux off the total cost of the car.

wires suck.

If all else fails, I would go back to the dealer & complain like hell!

yeah, I asked the dealership about it today and they said that when they were certifying my car for resale, they had to take the aftermarket alarm out. It turns out that it wasnt Toyota certified and it wasnt covered under warranty, so they couldnt leave it under there. The 50 year old guy who owned if before me had a remote ignition on a 6-speed... the idiot..haha.

sooo, did you end up paying for a "non-"working alarm system that the car salesman said came with the car, and if so, did you ask for a refund for the amount that alarm system cost you?


if not, i'd throw a fit until they replaced the cost of that. the alarm system wasnt even in the car for christsakes and the salesman said it came with one?! nuhuh. i'd be bitchin to em.
