How about a bomz muffler? Would it sound good? It's going on an 03' GT w/action package. Or which would sound best. I want something kinda quiet when idle, and loud when i rev it.

don't bother with a muffler, that's Get an exhaust system, or don't do anything.

Trust me, there is a reason an exhaust is $600 and a muffler is $100 Just save your pennies, and you'll be VERY happy. Mufflers are crap, all you get is a riced out sound and no performance gains

Or just have them cut your resonator off and put a glasspack on! Thats what I did, and I noticed a big performance difference and I LOVE the sound

Where is the resonator and how loud is it? If it is louder than a aftermarket muffler, then I don't want to do it. And do you put the glasspack in the place of the resonator?

Basically...easily done. Cut the muffler off and have a glass pack put on. Its that loud on idle but when you rev its great!! Cheap too!

Its smooth...I love it. Just go to your local muffler shop and tell them to put on oh...an 18" glass pack in place of your muffler. Shouldnt be more than 50 bux!!!

If your budget is no more than like $300 then you can get a custom exhaust made at your local muffler shop(Midas, Meineke). Just buy a muffler(Bomz is okay, ive heard good things about their mufflers) and then take it to the muffler shop and get 2.5" piping from the cat back and have the muffler welded on. Custom is one of the best ways to go for an exhaust.

Mufflers are crap, all you get is a riced out sound and no performance gains You are also paying a lot for the name (TRD, HKS, ect.) and some of the "name brand" exhausts tested by Turbo magazine didn't have much gain either. I would recomnd a quality universal (Magnaflow or Dynomax Ultraflow maybe) and custom pipes and you should still see some gains on a budget. I thnk some of the cheap brands you see on ebay are mostly just for noise and looks so I personally would stay away from those. Some of them are probably okay, but some are crap and will sound worse and fall apart pretty quick. Good luck!

it was a bomz muffler, Bomz muffler [ cgi.ebay.com] anyway, weren't magnaflow and dynamax originally for big V8's in trucks and muscle cars?

No, since they're universal they can be used on virtually any car.

The silencer quiets the exhaust down so it's not so loud.

You'll be more satisfied with everything if you do it right the first time, otherwise if you get just a muffler you may not be satisfied and will want to by a cat-back later which will cause you to use up more cash than expected.

Yes, because they have been in business longer than modding imports has been popular. Dynomax does also make a popular turbo style muffler which I think is more for the V8 crowd. Magnaflow and the dynomax ultraflow are straight thru designs (I have gone to the muffler shop and looked through them) like most of the "import" mufflers. I used a universal magnaflow on my altima and it did not sound buzzy at all.
