Probably due to loud valves or faulty belt tensioner. From my research, get used to it.

the chatter at idle is common for engines with variable valve timing. do you have GT? if you do, it's also because timing chains (rather than standard timing belts) tend to be loud at idle.

I know what your taking about. Mine has that same sound. Seems to be normal for 1.8 litre engines. I know its kinda loud, but there's nothing wrong with it!!!

My car always had a loud idle maybe from what U are experiencing. I never thought anything was wrong, but I heard from this site it might be due to the fuel injectors that tick tick sound. Nothing bad by the way. Any vibrations or squealing?

the tic tic tic could just be the metal expanding, how cold is it where you live, is it like the ticing that happens when you turn the car off? or is it definately a mechanical problem tic, cause tics are from belt or fan, or even intake manifold problems

A tic tic sound is probably nothing. My friend who once was a mechanic thought it may be a valve tap. And that wasn't it
Anyway check this>>> engine noise Sorry I can't find more right now.

The car is stock, and its been pretty chilli around here latley around 30s - 40s so that is probably also a factor. The car does not vibrate or anything like it, it seems like after 10 or 15 mins the sounds does clam down.
