I just got a CEL! What should i do? I have not done any engine mods other than trd exhaust which i've had since may, i did ground wires about two weeks ago. Nothing has been done to the stock airbox. I installed struts and springs last week, but that shouldn't cause anything to happen, plus i've been driving it around quite a bit. I checked my oil and radiator fluid, both are good. What else should i check?? Should it be safe to drive bout 80 miles? I'm still under 60k powertrain warrantee, i don't have OBI tool, (will invest in one now), is there anything that would turn a CEL that would not be covered under warantee??

OBDII scanner will set you back between 800 and 3000 bucks. bring your car to autozone, or pep boys and get them to pull the codes. Then you will know what to do. dont bring it to toyota unless the dealer is cool...most are dicks.

try disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery... and see if the code comes up... sometimes the ecu just gets confused. if your not running too hot, and all the fluids are good then i think its fine to go to autozone... call first and make sure they have the OBDII scanner... they should.

they should. there are books that they should have explaining what each code you pull means. try the battery thing first.

imma gonna call autozone and if they have the obi tool i'm gonna see what code it is. Then i'll decide about disconnecting the battery. I really don't want to disreguard a code that could lead to a major problem down the road, say after my warantee runs out.

if the code was anything major it would return after you disconnected the battery.

ok, went to autozone, the code was it was runing rich on bank 1. I beileve that is the first O2 sensor before the CAT. Had him delete the code and it hasn't come back yet. I'm gonna clean out my airfilter and possibly my MAFS.

if the code was anything major it would return after you disconnected the battery. Werd man...believe me, it will return if there are any major problems like you are dreading. Just do all that cleaning like you plan and you'll be fine.
