Did the stock one look like that before you took it off?

How would I know if it leaks? What would I be listening for?

1) finish installing it
2) start your car
3) let it idle
4) check that joint again and listen for leaks
5) place your hand around it to feel for leaks

if it does leak, you'll be able to hear it. it'll sound like something is flapping around.

As long as you have a tight seal between the exhaust and the gasket, it should be fine.

But follow Steven's advice to check for leaks.

its been forever since I installed mine and I honestly dont remember the gap or not but as people said if you used the gasket and there are no leaks, you shold be good to go.
