Since Sunday, half the time when I shift into 4th gear it grinds. Is there some call back on this or has any else had problems on the gts 6 speed? Just 4th gear it grinds.

take it to the dealer if your still under warranty...if not change your tranny fluid...every 30K miles it is suppose to be replaced

Mine does the same thing if you shift into first before you COMPLETELY stop.
does it need to have the stuff changed?

What is your mileage?? If your under the 60K warranty or have an extended warranty it outta cover it. either way I wouldn't accept that at all, take it in regardless, bitch at them. People on the board have blown their tranny at 45-50K from missshifting and had it replaced... Good luck keep us updated!

the symptoms sound like a synchronizer and bearing problem. check your powertrain warranty to be sure it's still valid. when you take it to the dealer they most likely need to duplicate the problem (since most technicians aren't too intuitive). good luck

mine sometimes grinds from 5th to 4th. If you shift slow, however; it wont grind.

I still have the 6 year/100,000 powertrain warranty, will that cover it? You know, I have the same thing with Steven, if I shift slow, it won't grind, only when I shift fast does it grind, uh . . . what a nasty feeling the grinding. I have 42,000 miles on the gts

Your synchros went bad. I had it, and lost a tranny too. So I think I'm quite the expert on this!

so what's a synchros? The synchronizer is a drum or sleeve that slides back and forth on the splined main shaft by means of the shifting fork. Generally, it has a bronze cone on each side that engages with a tapered mating cone on the second-and high-speed gears. A transmission synchronizer has two functions, which are as follows: 1. Lock the main shaft gear to the main shaft. 2. Prevent the gear from clashing or grinding during shifting. When the synchronizer is moved along the main shaft, the cones act as a clutch. Upon touching the gear that is to be engaged, the main shaft is accelerated or slowed down until the speeds of the main shaft and gear are synchronized. This action occurs during partial movement of the shift lever. Completion of lever movement then slides the sleeve and gear into complete engagement. This action can be readily understood by remembering that the hub of the sleeve slides on the splines of the main shaft to engage the cones; then the sleeve slides on the hub to engage the gears. As the synchronizer is slid against a gear, the gear is locked to the synchronizer and to the main shaft. Power can then be sent out of the transmission to the wheels.

Yea, mine will grind every now and then. My friend tells me just to wiggle the shift knob a bit before putting it in.
PS. does anyone's shift to reverse only go in half way sometimes?

PS. does anyone's shift to reverse only go in half way sometimes? YEAH, I hate that. I have to push it hard to the side and forwards. Maybe some springs need adjusting.

mine used to do that until i changed the tranny with a supposedly 03 spankin new tranny from the dealer under warranty...but now, everytime i go into reverse, it never grinds. my guess is that some of ya's tranny will go bad in the long run, but i hope not.
