Toyota's struts for the rear hatch costs $240 a pair and last only 2 to 3 years.

After market struts are too weak to lift the hatch and die even quicker. It's a pain in the butt to replace these struts, but without them, the hatch is too heavy to lift by hands.

ebay is selling after market struts with 3-year function warranty. Anybody know brands that would last longer?

Mine lasted about 8 years before needing to be replaced. And I used the heck out of them!

I picked up a genuine OEM set directly from the Toyota service center from my local Toyota dealership. They offered to have them shipped to my home/work or I could pick them up from them after getting a phone call. They were $45 for each side. Swapping both of them out was a 30 minute job the first time.

You can find aftermarket sets for $25 each side, ordered from your local auto zone or pep boys. Though, I would recommend that you stick with OEM replacements.

Hi Caffeinekid

Which dealer sold you OEM strut for $45 each? I want the same deal.

I tried a few after-market brands including Strongarm. They were too weak to lift the hatch, also failed early like in a few months.

I purchased my first set from https://autopartspeople.com in 2007 at $88.09 for each side. The second set in 2015 were under $100 for the pair from the dealership. I don't have a scanned copy of that receipt, but attached is a screen of the one from 2007, as described in this post:

i used a pair off ebay for 30 bucks about 2yrs ago and they still work fine. In NC with the colder months they do lose strength from time to time but I also have a weird spoiler on my car (from an integra, bought it this way and haent changed it because i like having a third brake light lol. Probably replace it by summers end this year tho)
