I just bought a Celica, 85k miles, 2004gt. There is a whining noise that happens when you are accelerating that increases as you go up in rpms.Took it to A transmission guy who says it sounds like the differential and told me it could take year's for the sound to become unbearable and to just turn my radio up in the meantime. Performance hasn't been affected but to make the noise go away the transmissions gonna have to get replaced. anyone dealt with this? Any advice on how to proceed?

^ Replacing the fluid wouldn't hurt. Not difficult or expensive and could help fix your issue. Good luck!

Well that sounds like your differential to me that is not lined up correctly from your output shaft gear to the ring gear. Does it sound like a straight cut gear? If so than yeah, that tranny has been perverted with. Ways to fix it, align the gears yourself or get the pros to do it. I only just learned that from my college professor transmissions guy a few days ago, so I cannot tell you how to align it.

Yes agree, the transmission guy I took the car to said the said the same thing about the gears not being aligned... So I might not need to get a new transmission just to fix the one I have... Also I'll def do a flush thanks y'all!!!!
