I've seen lots of articles lately about the extream benefits of using Top Tier Gas. I know that Celicas require High Octane gas (87 for GT, 91 for GTS). But I was wondering where everyone holds regarding make sure only to use Top Tier.

Do you only use Top Tier for your Celica? Have you noticed a difference?

In the GT, I use 89 mostly for getting around town, and going to the job and back. I find the Celica performs slightly better easier accelerations, and less felling of being bogged down. For planned longer trips (over 50 miles of driving at once) I use 91. I easily get within the 27 to 32mpg using a fuel/mileage tracking OBD2 reader. The cost difference is about $1 more at the pump for a full tank. I think I can spare that extra cost for the weekly fuel-up at the gas pump.

I run 93 octane religiously in my GTS. However, that definitely isn't necessary in the GT. I have just heard some bad stories about people cheaping out on gas and it coming back to bite them when we are talking about cars that REQUIRE premium. The GT does not require it like the GTS does.

Ok people still seem to have a hard time deciphering about cheap 89 over 93 or 94 which ever you have. The higher the octane reading the more efficient the fuel burns in the combustion chamber which means it takes slightly slower to ignite the whole camber as the piston comes to TDC. 89 has a possibility of causing knock but its rare now since almost all vehicles from 95+ have knock sensors which the computer can calculate what to do on that matter. My preferance is get 94 or 93 even in a GT I had a huge notice in power when I switched from 91 to 93 back and forth, I also notice there are slight differences in making that small power just from going to different gas stations, oddly enough, I went to Shell one day since I was running low got its highest octane gas and it actually felt slower. Went to Petrol Canada got 94 (ie: highest octane they have) and holy what a difference at least in torque I felt it had a bit more low to mid end torque by a few lb-ft. Quote me on my words or not but I do experience slight power increases from higher octane fuels and on the gas station you buy it from. As far as efficiency goes, eh, maybe a few extra km of distance but not that much.
