Celica Forums General Discussion General Codes p442 p446

Hello there, i recently purchased a celica, and it is giving me back these codes. I know they are linked to a evap leak.
I am trying to diagnose between it being the purge valve or the canister itself. The code seems to be a random occurance, i have gotten it 4 times, reset it and had it pop back up at different amounts of milage. Car runs very nice, idle does not seem rough, and i have already replaced the gas cap hoping it was that.
The code has popped up 60 miles in, 10 miles in, 35 miles in, and 28 miles in, so it seems almost random when it is happening, it isnt tied to the car hitting operation temp or anything.
If anybody has a similar experiance, i would love to hear what the issue ended up being for you.

Congrats on the recent purchase but sorry to hear it's giving you trouble. I recently had some evap codes, being the following:

P0440
P0441
P0446

I bought a charcoal canister, purge valve, and gas cap at a local junkyard expecting to be in the kind of conundrum you're in, but I suppose I got lucky. After buying those parts, I was in my engine bay one day checking the evap line connections, etc and noticed a rip in one of the evap vacuum lines. I replaced the line with some tubing from the hardware store and have been error-free for the last 300 miles.

So I would double check that all those evap lines are in one piece and still soft. The system is delicate and one tear is enough to trigger some codes.
