I want to create my own style body kit and accessories to truly create a 'unique' car.

I have the knowledge required to measure dimensions and design an accurate model in CAD software and have connections to people with large scale 3D printers.

Is using 3D printed parts a stupid idea long term? if it is, I'm willing to send my designs to a company to make the parts out of polyurethane when I can afford it.

If you're printing with carbon fiber then sure. Otherwise I would use the prints as a mold to cast from.
Normal filaments are too brittle tend not to hold up well to the impact of high speed movement. Now if it was a resin print it might be a different story I don't have much experience with them.
Source: Cosplayer that's done obstacle course races and had most of my prints fail, but the parts I cast with fiberglass and kevlar have held up better.

Hey guys/girls, I'm a currently a computer science student just trying to get buy and I will be investing in a 3d printer and software sometime soon. I have been thinking for my first project I will make a TRD(lookalike) bonnet scoop and then wrap in carbon fibre or paint up nicely. Would this be something that some people would be interested in? I could also print out smaller interior parts as well.
Anybody have any ideas for different parts to print that might be in demand?
Any ideas would be amazing!
Will probably advertise on here and on facebook when I have everything set up. Probably won't be for another month or two.
